Michele Grethel, Ph.D., LCSW

Dr. Michele Grethel offers assessment and evaluation, design, development, and implementation of health and wellness within schools, including counseling services, health education curricula, and institutional health and wellbeing consultation. As a result of Michele’s administrative roles in health care and Independent Schools, she is positioned to offer comprehensive school health and wellness programming and incorporating best practices for faculty, students and families.

Michele is currently the director of psychological services at The Spence School, school counselor, psychotherapist in private practice in New York City and a clinical researcher. Dr. Grethel transitioned to Independent Schools over a decade ago after immersing in community health care as the director of a medical and mental health clinic for children, adolescents and young adults. As a result, her consultation provides a well-rounded understanding of the health and wellness needs in schools, as well as taking into consideration complex healthcare systems within communities that students and families live.

Further, Michele brings to consulting a strong clinical mental health background, encompassing a holistic approach to working with clients integrating mindfulness, neuroscience, and evidence-based therapeutic treatment practices. With over 20 years of clinical experience, Michele has supported individuals coping with trauma, mood and anxiety disorders, eating disorders, as well as other complex mental health conditions. Michele has expertise in working with lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender adolescents and adults.
